In Ohio, is there a minimum sentence for a 3rd degree felony?
I have an ex that will be going to court soon. He was charged with Grand Theft of a Firearm, which is a 3rd degree felony. I looked it up and it said the sentence was 1-5 years. Now what I’m curious about is, is the 1 year a definite minimum if he’s found guilty? It looks like that his original plea was not guilty but there’s a trial set for change of plea and sentencing, but it’s not set for 3 weeks! I don’t know much about the law…can you plead no contest to a felony or no? Or is the only option is he’s changing his plea to guilty?
