in MN. do you have to be buried in a casket or need to be embalemed
In Minnesota, it is not required by law that the deceased be embalmed unless the body needs to be shipped by common carrier, or if the final disposition will be more than 72 hours after death, there is a public viewing requested or the Commissioner of Health orders it.
If the deceased will be buried in the earth, you do need to purchase a casket. If the deceased will be cremated a casket is not necessary, though the body will be placed in some kind of rigid container prior to cremation. You can also purchase or rent a casket for a funeral/viewing before the cremation if desired.
