Japanese language is a combination of those 3. So we use ALL 3 of them to write names. In most cases, we write a name in kanji like 田中 (tanaka). But in formal documents like application for insurance, rental DVD, whatever, you are required to write your name in hiragana or katakana. In tanaka’s case, you have to write like たなか or タナカ. Kanji does not exist alone. It has hiragana or katakana attached to it, showing its sounds. So you need to learn all 3. But as others say, if you are not Japanese, all you can do is to write your name in katakana.
