In general, what is expected of me in the counseling curricula?

The majority of the course work includes didactic and experiential components. Specifically, the technique classes and practicum/internship rely extensively on video taping of real and simulated counseling sessions where you are expected to apply the counseling course work and turn theory into therapy. You will need access to video taping equipment during this course work. Self discovery and disclosure is highly encouraged in the majority of the course work. You are the instrument of your work as a counselor. For this reason, it is recommended (but not required) that you experience counseling as a client before you begin to practice as a counselor.
