In evaluating our mapping needs, can you give some helpful questions to ask ourselves to decide whether ArcView is enough to meet our requirements, or whether we need to obtain ArcInfo?
We recommend that you start with ArcView in the beginning phases of developing your GIS. If later, you decide you need a more powerful product you typically look to one of the plug-in modules such as Spatial Analyst or Network Analyst. There will also be new modules or extensions coming out in the near future. If your needs extend beyond the capabilities of the ArcView or its extension modules at a later date, you can also purchase ARC/INFO. The earlier purchased ArcView will still be an invaluable tool to work with the data created with ARC/INFO. The majority of ArcView users use ArcView for most of their viewing, analysis and plotting needs. ArcView is also a much easier program to use and the concepts learned can be extended over into the ARC/INFO platform.
