In conversations with the new American administration, has France been asked to increase military involvement in Afghanistan?
There has been no request to strengthen the French military presence in Afghanistan. Bernard Kouchner’s statements have been very explicit, notably during discussions of our foreign operations at the National Assembly and in the Senate. Any change in our presence on the world stage has no link whatsoever to the specific situation in Afghanistan. Moreover, at this stage, there is no prospect of an increased French military presence in Afghanistan.
