In consideration of Y2K (year2,000), what would happen to our sewage if there were no electricity?
This a new question, but one worthy of some discussion. The collection system operates for the most part on gravity, however there are also 22 Lift Stations scattered throughout, which require electrical power to pump the flow to a sewer that is higher in elevation to continue the gravity flow to the Treatment Facility, which has standby power generation and will continue to operate. A couple of the lift stations also have standby generators on-site that will automatically take over. All of the rest of the stations would have to be serviced by means of the portable generators we have. This would keep our people very busy going from one station to another, but can be accomplished. Any new stations proposed will be equipped with an on-site generator. If you are one of the few that utilize a pump for your individual building or home it might be advisable to look into securing a small generator that could be connected into your wiring and be capable of operating your pump.
