In Backgammon why do I only receive 1 point for a Gammon or Backgammon?

We want everyone to have a chance to play 2 games. If you were to win by a Gammon in a 2 point normal match, the match would be over. This way, everyone gets a chance at at least 2 games per match. However, you still want to try for them to get the higher pip score.
