In Australian Parliament, why does each state of Australia have exactly 12 senators? Is this democratic?
Before federation, the smaller states felt that if they were to become part of one nation, they wouldn’t have an equal say in decisions and be overruled by the larger states. By each state having 12 senators each state has an equal say and equal representation. It is a means of fairness and equality in parliament therefore it is democratic.
