In an Islamic believers opinion, how was the world created?
Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe? [Quran 21:30] Muslims believe that God created the world through the Big Bang. If you glance through the Bible and the Qur’an you may find several points which appear to be exactly the same in both of them, but when you analyse them closely, you realise that there is a difference of ‘chalk and cheese’ between them. Only based on historical details it is difficult for someone who is neither conversant with Christianity or Islam to come to a firm decision as to which of the scriptures is true; however if you verify the relevant passages of both the scriptures against scientific knowledge, you will yourself realize the truth. While the Quran states that the world was created in six days, “Allah created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, in six days” (7:54), the Arabic word “youm” is used. This term is mentioned in the Quran and denotes different lengths of time. For example, this verse, “a day in the sight of your Lord is like 1,000 years of your reckoning” (22:47). According to this verse and other examples, the word “youm” can mean eons or a long period of time. Thus, Muslims interpret this as the world was created in six distinct eons.
