In a liability case involving several Medicare contractors, which contractor should the attorney specifically deal with?
After the attorney has contacted the Medicare Coordination of Benefits Contractor (COBC) involving the representation of a Medicare beneficiary in a liability case, the COBC will forward the name of the contractor to the attorney who will lead Medicare’s recovery efforts. All written and telephone communication should be with the lead contractor.
