Impassioned expert on Mother Mazzarello, which of her qualities are relevant today?
Yes, I have a passion for the spirituality of our co-foundress, Maria Mazzarello. I do not consider myself an expert because as FMA we should all be steeped in her spirituality. However, over the years I have come to know and love the spirituality of Maria Mazzarello particularly through her personal correspondence. When they were made available to each FMA in 1975 I immediately sensed a different person from all that I had heard about her in conferences and read about in so many biographies. Through these letters I touched a woman totally in love with her God, with her family, with the young, her peers, the women who accompanied her in the foundation of our congregation, with Salesian priests, parents. What emerged for me was a woman who found joy in the events and people in her life not because she had no difficulties or hardships but because she had truly experienced God as a real person who loved her immensely.
