Im trying to send an e-mail to a NetGate customer and it comes back with some message about an RBL, what gives?
NetGate Internet subscribes to several RBL’s or real time blackhole lists. These lists block messages from mail servers that spammers are using to mass e-mail people. If an ISP finds its way onto the RBL’s list its because formal complaints have been filed against them and they fail to prevent future spamming. Spam is usually a result of ISP’s configuring their mail servers to allow outgoing mail to be relayed through them from outside their network. You can find out if your SMTP mail server allows relaying here. If your message does bounce back to you and its because of one of the RBL’s you’ll need to contact your ISP and give them a copy of the e-mail which explains the problem.
