Im trying to scan from the UMAX scanner and it keeps freezing or locking up. Why?
Are you trying to scan directly to your Zip disk? If so, this may be the problem. Scan first to the hard drive in the Student folder (see UMAX scanning instructions) then after the scan is complete, from the desktop level, drag the new file onto your zip. The UMAX scanning software does tend to crash with our latest operating system. This may be due to the use of a 3rd party SCSI card since the new Macs don’t include SCSI ports. UMAX has not issued any updated software so we will have to make do with the crashes. In the past we had more crashes by scanning directly out of Photoshop but now, it seems that it crashes less when scanning directly out of Photoshop (using FILE, ACQUIRE, UMAX…). You may choose either scanning from Photoshop or using the UMAX software located in the Apple Menu. Don’t move the mouse at all while scanning is in operation. If the software crashes, you must restart the computer. If you weren’t trying to scan directly to your Zip disk, try restarting the computer
