I’m thinking of buying property in an area shown in the Strategic Flood Map to be at risk of flooding. What should I do?
The flood risk to a property will be only one of many factors in your decision to purchase and for many people this may not be an over-riding or significant factor. However, if you are concerned you may wish to seek the advice of a surveyor or other qualified professional who, in assessing the flood risk to the property, may take into consideration such factors as the design of the property, the local ground levels, the flood history and the presence of existing flood defences, if any.
