Im sub-letting retail premises – do I need buildings Insurance?

It very much depends on the terms of your lease, usually the owner of the building will arrange the insurance as it is they who have most to lose in the event of a loss, although they may pass the cost on to you if those are the terms of your tennancy. You need to check your paperwork and if necessary contact the owner of the premises, (not your landlord, unless they are one and the same). Don’t forget you will need contents and liability cover, these will almost certainly not be covered anywhere else as they are your liability. In this litigious age I cannot stress highly enough the need for appropriate liability cover.
