Guess what? The cruise lines are getting more serious about weight training, too. No longer do you see the dumbbell rack selection maxing out at 35 pounds; many ships now offer racks of dumbbells running poundages up to 60 and beyond. While you wont find Golds Gym at sea (not yet!), you wont see a lone workout station with lavender-colored plastic weights passing as a fitness center, either. If youre really into serious workouts try to book aboard one of the larger (85,000-tons plus) ships even hardcore bodybuilders who live for the pump can get a pretty decent workout aboard them. Another option is to train at local gyms in the ports your ship visits. This may cut into your shore excursion time but for the cruise passenger into fitness/bodybuilding, this isn’t always a problem. Our suggestion is to search the Internet for major international chains before you set sail. Golds Gym, for instance, has a great facility in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico…just minutes from the cruise pier. Cruise
