Im planning an RV (21) trip to Yellowstone NP 9/13 – 9/20. Should I make campsite reservations?
I can understand you’re wanting your freedom and some people say it’s possible to get a first-come site without reservations, but you’ve got to get there really early usually. You’re going to be there just past peak season so you might have an easier time of it, but keep this in mind: Twelve Yellowstone RV campgrounds are situated inside the park’s boundaries. The National Park Service operates seven of these sites, and spaces must be secured on a first-come, first-serve basis. During peak season (July and August), Yellowstone RV campgrounds routinely fill up in the early morning. Meantime, Xanterra Parks & Resorts (1-866-439-7375; www.travelyellowstone.com) accepts reservations for the other five campsites, including the 344-site Fishing Bridge RV Park.
