• Sometimes a method of repair is to fit a split chain and as you say snake it through and use split link to join it up again. You have to make sure you have the exact number of links and ensure that the split link is 100% secure. This is not an uncommon form of repair. There are spring clip master link cam chains substitutes available for most bikes/BMW’s – it’s just a matter of finding out who makes them and what to order.
