Im offended. Why do metalheads say metal is superior to the other genres?
Heavy metal is not superior to any other genre, and, personally, I have never claimed it was, despite being a big fan of metal myself. Though I know some metalheads who would say that, and it’s a little pitiable, because though they listen to some of the most extreme and inhuman music out there, they keep a closed mind to other forms of non-conventional or “extreme” music, of which there are plenty besides metal. In fact, though I like the genre, I find metal in general to be one of the least innovative genres out there—as a whole. Every now and then you get an original, refreshing new metal band, but you have to wade through layers and layers of bland, uninspiring garbage to find jewels (like Atheist or DEP or maudlin of the Well, but anyway, I’m not going to go there…).
