Im interested in studying social work, what does the job entail?
It really depends on what you want to do. Every social work job is different. You can work in many different areas – schools, hospitals, nursing homes, hospice, child welfare, family services, adoption/foster care, substance abuse, domestic violence, counseling, jails, etc. The list goes on. A BSW, at least, is required to be considered a social worker, as it is a professional field. (A lot of people get social worker and case worker mixed up, but you can’t be a social worker without a social work degree.) I just graduated with my BSW, and I interned at an international adoption agency, which I loved. If you decide to go into it, just beware that there are a lot of misconceptions about the field. People tend to think that social workers just take children out of homes. As you can see from all the areas I listed, there is so much more to it than that.
