Im in 10th grade cbse. how do cocurricular activities help in college applications?
(what’s “cbse.” ?) 1. They give colleges the chance to see what kind of person you are (in general) through the activities you choose. Your activities should genuinely reflect your interests and/or causes you believe in. They do not all have to be related to the major you intend to study and, in fact, if they do you may appear to be a narrow person. Be aware that college admissions officers are not stupid. They know that kids try to impress them with lots of activities, and they question how someone can really be committed to an overload of activities. Being deeply involved in one thing can help you as much as a laundry list of things. 2. Writing well and/or an interest in writing activities (newspaper, yearbook, etc.) would be a plus for someone headed for math/economics. It’s rare to find someone who can “crossover” from the maths/sciences to the humanities. Also, essay questions on college applications often carry a lot of weight — especially if they are thoughtful & well-written.
