I’m having new gas service installed after July 1st. Can I pay any associated charges now to avoid paying the HST?
Services are taxed at the rate which applied on the date the services were completed. So services completed before July 1st will be taxed at the GST rate of five per cent, and services completed on and after July 1st will be taxed at the HST rate of 13 per cent. The impact of this tax change will be pro-rated on your bill since your billing period doesn’t begin and end on the first and last days of each month.
