Im buying an HP 3000 or HP 9000 from a broker. How do I know if the broker owns the right-to-use license so that it can be transferred to my company?
A. You can ask to see the broker’s license document. This license document should contain the HP 3000 or 9000 Serial Number, Model Number, User License level and a list of installed software. It should also be signed by an authorized representative of Hewlett-Packard. If the broker cannot produce this document, the chances are very good the broker does not own the right-to-use license. Q. I heard that HP has sued some of the brokers for illegal use of HP-proprietary software. A. This is true. Recently, HP has initiated litigation against several brokers that have been involved in unlawful HP 9000-to-HP 3000 conversions and User License upgrades. HP and CSY (the HP 3000 home division) are in the process of vigorously defending HP’s rights, and will continue to do so whenever illegal activity is uncovered.
