It isn’t necessary to get your mind to go blank, so you can remove that goal from your intentions list. Repeating a mantra is helpful, whether it is the standard ‘om’, or whatever comes to you, or just to focus on rhythmic breathing while thinking “breathe in…. breathe out”. You may still be distracted, and when you are, just gently and quietly go back to your initial focus. Meditation also doesn’t have to be 30 minutes in length to be effective, or in a still, seated, position. Anything that quiets your mind while you direct your focus to the present moment is meditative. The most important thing is to do it every day.
