People arriving in the UK and heading for York usually arrive at one of the following airports (website links are about travel to / from the airport): London: Heathrow: There’s a lot of travel info on http://www.heathrowairport.com/, including a journey planner. Gatwick: Check out http://www.gatwick-airport-guide.co.uk/ Basically, from any of the London airports, you need to get yourself to the London Kings Cross rail station, where there’s an hourly (more or less) service, with a journey time of around 2 hours. Manchester: There’s full info on http://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/ There’s a good rail service direct from Manchester Airport to York. I’ve used it many times. It’s good. Leeds / Bradford: Despite it being the nearest airport to York, transport to York is not easy. You have two options: (1) Get a taxi – costs about £20 – £25 or (2) Hopping on a coach shuttle to Leeds Rail Station and taking the half hour train ride to York.
