Im allergic to cat saliva. Can I get a Peterbald?
• Saliva dries up on the hair of the cat and as the cats shed, the hair becomes airborne; thus causing even more allergy symptoms. • All cats groom themselves, but hairless cats groom themselves less than other cats. Thus, you will have lesser reactions to hairless cats. But, you will most likely still have reactions. If you decide to get a cat even though you are allergic to cat saliva, then there are things you can do to lessen your symptoms. • Choose an allergy-friendly breed such as the Peterbald, Sphynx or Don Hairless. • Choose a light-colored cat. Light-colored cats produce less Fel D 1 (the allergen in the saliva that causes allergies). • Invest in a good air cleaner with a hepa-filter. • Use litter that does not produce dust.
