Im a new fan and I don own any of the Monkees albums, yet — where should I start?
Most new fans start with a greatest hits or best of collection – any one of them will do. After that, it’s up to you whether to start with the “original nine albums” or to go with the box set. (Note: The Listen To The Band Box Set was retired and replaced by The Monkees Music Box in Feb., 2001.) If you decide to go with the original nine, I suggest buying them in order of release to appreciate the evolution of the group. After you have these, you should get all three volumes of the Missing Links series – I recommend buying volume two, first, as it’s a great Monkees album, on its own. To round out the basic collection, if you didn’t opt for the box set, you’ll need the reunion releases: That Was Then This is Now, Pool It! and JustUs.
