Im a diabetic. How often should I see my Podiatrist?
A healthy diabetic with no foot complications should see their podiatrist once per calendar year. A diabetic with no circulation or nerve problems, and no foot deformity, has no more risk for amputation than the average person. The uncomplicated diabetic does not need diabetic shoes. However, if you have poor circulation, neuropathy, or a foot deformity such as a bunion, hammertoe, arthritic knot or callus, you may need to be seen as often as every three months, and you probably qualify for diabetic shoes paid by insurance (depending on your plan benefits). Schedule your diabetic exam and get the preventative care that is right for you.
