IGN FAQs: Whats the gaming scene like in Australia? Whats the most popular system?
AstroBlue: Australia has a really strong gaming scene. But we are largely ignored by the industry because we only have a population of 18 million or so. I’d say the Xbox is probably the most popular system in Australia. Microsoft were really savage in their marketing campaign over here. Before launch; almost every bus shelter had a “Combat Evolved” Halo poster; my University was brimming with Xbox hats and flyers, and there were stories on “A Current Affair” about how much better the Xbox is compared to the PS2 and N64. Yeah, and GameCube is dead in Australia, I’ve heard rumors that during the Christmas Season they only sold like 3,000 Cubes, which is pathetic to say the least. Thankfully, systems and games cost roughly the same as they do in the U.S. IGN FAQs: Are there any games in Australia that are popular that you don’t think are or would be popular in the U.S.?
