IGN FAQs: What game genre lends itself best to FAQs?
Devin Morgan: Obviously, the RPG genre lends itself best to FAQs, but at the same time, the RPG FAQs have become so saturated it’s ridiculous. Take Final Fantasy VII for instance. That’s a wonderful game, I know it, everyone I know know’s it, there’s no disputing its greatness. But how many FAQs does a game need? I don’t understand why everyone would waste their time writing FAQs for a game that already has so many guides. There are countless games with no FAQs, but still, new writers flock to what’s already been done. I try to tell people, if you want your FAQ to be posted, start with a game that no one has written for already. No use wasting all of your time writing another Final Fantasy VII guide when you can be the first and only writer to write for another great game out there. Plus, since you’ll have the only guide, more people will read it. I feel that the racing and puzzle genres are the most neglected by far, and need new writers to tackle those FAQs.
