Good question. In fact, at least one executioner (Dow Hover) eventually committed suicide and others have suffered from serious psychological illnessess. Many people support the death penalty without having looked at the death penalty system in action. The only purpose it serves is retribution, it is seriously (and intrinsically) flawed in application and there is a serious and continuing risk of executing innocent people.
