If there were no humans, would global warming still be happening?
One of the things that those that say there would be no global warming if there were no humans have to ignore is that the climate has NEVER been stable. Climate is in a constant state of change. There have been times (some within human history) when the climate has been significantly warmer than it is today. There have been times when the climate was significantly cooler than it is now. These fluctuations all occurred long before we started burning significant amounts of fossil fuels. What change is going on now is not happening at a rate that is any faster than past climate changes. Those that say that we have to stop global warming are also assuming that we are living in an optimal climate range for the Earth. However, the data does not even support this conclusion. In the recorded past, periods when temperatures were warmer than they are now were period of prosperity. The warmer temperatures mean greater food production which lead to economic booms for the people of the time.
