The Canadian Heritage Information Network is an agency of the Department of Canadian Heritage, created the VMC. More than 1,300 member museums are responsible for providing content to the Virtual Museum of Canada and as a collaborative site, the VMC owns a .ca URL instead of a gc.ca.
