If the urine test shows protein during pregnancy, is that bad?
Protein in the pregnancy can mean you have pre-eclampsia. Pre-eclampsia is characterized by high blood pressure, protein in the urine, swelling, and sudden weight gain. Depending on the severity, it can be life threatening, and the ultimate cure is to delivery the baby. I developed pre-eclampsia with my first pregnancy, and I ended being on bed rest and being monitored. I ended up delivering at 36 weeks. Pre-eclampsia can also age the placenta which can limit the amount of nutrients to your baby and may end your pregnancy earlier than expected.
