If the Tilterator doesn’t have a strong lid, how do I keep dogs and rodents and other varmints from digging through the pile for kitchen scraps?
Don’t put kitchen scraps in the pile. No kidding. Most cities and municipalities recommend against it. If your compost pile is full of food scraps, scavengers are going to find a way to get into it unless your compost bin is as secure as a garbage can. The recommended methods for disposing of kitchen scraps include using a worm bin, or a Green Cone (or similar product). They work really well, and they’re not as yucky as you might think.
