Don’t put kitchen scraps in the pile. No kidding. Most cities and municipalities recommend against it. If your compost pile is full of food scraps, scavengers are going to find a way to get into it unless your compost bin is as secure as a garbage can. The recommended methods for disposing of kitchen scraps include using a worm bin, or a Green Cone (or similar product). They work really well, and they’re not as yucky as you might think.
