The provisions of 9-5.7.2 (Web) and 9-6.7.2 (Round) require the tagging of a sling to be done by the manufacturer. Sections 9-5.7.3 and 9-6.7.3 indicates the maintenance of the tag is the duty of the user. This covers the gamut from keeping built up dirt and mud off the tag to totally replacing the tag with one that meets the requirements of being present and legible. The user or other party who replaces the identification has assumed the role of the sling manufacturer. The party placing that identification has assumed the responsibility of all facets of that sling meeting the requirements of all requirements of B30.9 assigned to the sling manufacturer. Users who retag slings are not really aware of this assumption of risk.
