If the Lebanese Civil War wasn about religion, what caused it then?

Unfortunately, the Leftist, Sunni and Druze Lebanese chose the Palestinians over their Lebanese brothers and we fought a war over this. 2) The South Lebanon Army was initially sent by Prime Minister Selim al-Hoss (a Sunni) and Suleiman Franjieh and President Elias Sarkis (a Maronite) to protect the South. In that sense, yes, they were a genuine resistance. They turned to Israel to get weapons to fight the PLO. They went wrong in the late 1980s, when they became an Israeli proxy militia. Yes, some of the SLA members had good intentions, but their leader Antoine Lahad was an Israeli agent, plane and simple. So by the end of the SLA’s southern reign, they had lost all legitimacy.
