If the Commission finds that a candidate or committee has violated the election laws, what penalty can it impose?
The Commission is authorized upon the finding of a violation to impose civil penalties in the form of fines not to exceed $1,000 per count. In some cases, the Commission may or is required to impose a higher penalty of two or three times the amount involved in the illegal act.
