If someone wanted to become a Hasidic Jew, could they approach a Rabbi and take steps necessary for conversion?
I’ll assume that this question is: “What does a non-Jew who wants to become Hasidic have to do?” [There’s no conversion process from “ordinary” Jew to Hasidic Jew.] If a non-Jew wanted to become a Hasidic Jew, the process would be almost identical to any normal Orthodox Jewish conversion. This requires a lot of study and a dramatic change of lifestyle (i.e. to observe Judaism). Once someone has completed their conversion, they would then decide to adopt the customs associated with Hasidic Judaism. These are not different laws or rituals, just different customs surrounding those rituals, and often a stricter form of observance of the laws. It is always a good idea to find a mentor if you plan to convert to Judaism. If one is interested in Hasidic Judaism, I guess it would make sense for that mentor to be Hasidic.
