If seagrass doesn’t currently exist in an area, how do we know if the environment will support it?
We have developed new techniques that enable us to manipulate physical variables such as topography, sediment characteristics and nutrient regime, resulting in successful restoration in areas denuded of seagrass, Some geographies have physical and chemical characteristics that are unsuitable for seagrass seedling colonization, but adult plants can thrive once they are established. Planting and protecting new seagrass in a sensible way can encourage growth in a variety of locations.
