If Queen Elizabeth II dies before her husband dies, does Prince Philip become the Kingfather?
Prince Philip will most likely remain as “His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, since he is only the Prince Consort to Elizabeth II, therefore he cannot carry the title of “King.” Also, there is no male equivalent of “Queen Dowager, Dowager Queen or Queen Mother”, which is a title or status generally held by the widow of a deceased king. The Prince Charles, Prince of Wales is heir to the British throne, and if the Queen dies before Prince Charles does, he will be wearing the British crown. Prince Charles will be the 5th monarch to act as “Head of State” of the United Kingdom from the House of Windsor. Note: Queen Elizabeth II’s mother was generally known as “The Queen’s Mum”, perhaps Prince Phillip will be referred as the unofficial “The King’s Pa” by the media and the general public.
