If Puerto Rico became a US state, would someone born in Puerto Rico be eligible to run for President?
By statue, Puertorricans were given US citizenship in 1952. The statue gave anyone born in Puerto Rico between 1898 and 1941 US citizenship. Anyone born in PR after 1941 is deemed a “natrual born citizen”. It’s a separate section of US code 8, the same one that allows John McCain to be eligible to be president.
