By statue, Puertorricans were given US citizenship in 1952. The statue gave anyone born in Puerto Rico between 1898 and 1941 US citizenship. Anyone born in PR after 1941 is deemed a “natrual born citizen”. It’s a separate section of US code 8, the same one that allows John McCain to be eligible to be president.
