A10. Federal, provincial and territorial governments set a target to reduce the number of inactive Canadians by 10% by 2003. The Department is working closely with provincial and territorial governments and a wide range of national organizations to develop strategies that will empower community organizations, health-care providers, fitness practitioners, volunteer groups, municipal governments, as well as educators to change sedentary lifestyles among Canadians of all ages. The development of Canada’s Physical Activity Guide to Healthy Active Living, in cooperation with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology, is the result of one such partnership. The Guide has been officially endorsed by all provincial and territorial governments and more than 40 national organizations in fitness/active living, recreation, health and medical communities.
