OPMN provides process monitoring and restart capability, independent of the clustering auto-configuration benefits that it provides in conjunction with mod_oc4j. This monitoring and restart capability is useful in a stand-alone single instance of Oracle Application Server, too. Moreover, if that instance contains multiple OC4J processes or islands, OPMN can provide a process level re-routing.
