If or since God is the beginning (Gen. 1:1) and if there is eternity (without end), was there an eternity past—an eternity prior to Genesis 1:1?
The oldest psalm in the Bible, and the only one written by Moses, answers this question. “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God” (Psalm 90:2). In regard to eternity, it is extremely difficult to imagine the future with no end, but it is absolutely impossible to contemplate a past with no beginning.
