A surviving spouse will be entitled to a continuing benefit assuming you, as the retired member, have chosen a payment option allowing for such continuing benefits and your surviving spouse is otherwise qualified to receive such a benefit. If a surviving spouse qualifies for continuing benefits based upon their deceased spouses benefits and is receiving a pension based upon their own service as a retirement plan member, they will be entitled to receive both benefits.
