If media and delivery devices, like the World Wide Web, don enhance learning, then why should we develop online learning opportunities?
There are many answers to this question: Online courses, for example, are more convenient for many learners. But, an online course does remove the professor as the main voice of intellectual authority within the classroom. As a result, learners are, in some ways, “on their own” to learn course content. So, online courses-when designed well-can create an impetus for students to become actively involved in developing their own personal understanding of course content.
