If Keygens are such a problem, why don the companies track the cracked serials?
Most hacked or cracked software has absolutely no reason to “phone home” its just a way for the companies to keep track. A good firewall will notify you when something is trying to “phone home” so if you have installed a pirate copy you can deny it without any worries. AV’s & Spyware are always want access but is pretty much safe even if you have a pirate version because the signature updates process is accessible by free versions anyway. Keygens & cracks get flagged as virus’s because they work in a similar fashion but are usually safe, so I don’t go along with Daltons assumption that keygens are virus’s it’s just that he doesn’t know how these things work. Companies do track them, thats why most programs when installed take you to a website registration page, but if you don’t allow the program to “phone home” they’ll never know and if you don’t fill out the website info they’ll never know. Companies are relying on the end user’s limited experience to notify them of wrong doing, which
