If justice is blind, Why does the ideological leaning of Supreme Court justices matter?
Good question! The only ideological leaning of a Supreme Court justice that matters is whether he respects the laws above his own feelings and opinions. The reason that people are concerned about the leanings of Supreme Court justices in America is that many justices do not respect the laws and “legislate from the bench.” It is not the job or the place of a court justice or judge to rule on how he thinks the law should be written. He must judge based on the existing laws. If he deems a law conflicts with an existing law, he can determine that the new law violates the previous or higher law, but nothing is to be decided based on how he wishes the laws read. Therefore, if justices and judges respect the law, then we should pick only the most knowledgeable and experienced judges we can, regardless of race, creed, or economic status.
